We had a great turnout for our CNPA Fraser Valley Chapter Christmas Luncheon 2023. Almost 100 members of the Fraser Valley and Vancouver chapters attended.
It was good to see lots of familiar faces, and renew some friendships.
Once again railroaders opened their hearts and wallets with $390.00 cash and a sizeable donation of food for the Acts of Kindness Society food bank.
Sarah Carver entertained us with some Christmas tunes on her bagpipes. Her father was a machinist in Thornton Diesel shops.
Lots of prizes were given out -
$25 gift cards were won by Betty Fawdrey, Steve Mihell, Cara Clark, Linda Yap, Jose Aguiar, Douglas Kilvert, Bertha Alexander, Rick Webb, Dave Thomson.
Door Prize winners were: Ken Favero won the train, and Ross Gregory won the doghouse, both constructed and donated by Keith Dierdre (thanks Keith and Dixie).
Lastly our 3 50/50 draw winners were Vernon Sinclair, Ron Sveen, and Carol Whitemore.
Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you for attending. We look forward to seeing all of you at our Summer soiree!
UPDATE December 19th - We made our donation to the Surrey Food Bank today. Two hundred dollars was donated on behalf of the membership of CNPA Fraser Valley.
$200 donations were also made to Carrie Belanger at the White Rock Sources Community Resource Center, and to Josh Draheim, community coordinator at Salvation Army Care and Share who operate Chilliwack Food Bank, on December 20th.
Remembrance Day 2023
As always, CNPA Fraser Valley was represented at 3 Remembrance Day services.
a wreath was placed at each of the Chilliwack, Aldergrove, and Whalley Cenotaphs by Barry Jones, Ross Dewar and Rae Sexton respectively. Unfortunately this year we were unable to get pictures from Chilliwack.
'Tis the Season!! It's time once again to plan for our Christmas Luncheon, coming up in December. Tickets are $20.00 each, and are available from any Executive Member!

CNPA Quilt Raffle Donation
The proceeds from the CNPA Fraser Valley quilt raffle held in June were donated to the Cyrus Center in Abbotsford, in support of youth aged 12-24 in the Fraser Valley.
Barry Jones is seen here presenting a $300.00 donation to Matt Loewen, Regional Director of the Cyrus Centre.
Thank you to all the members and associates who bought tickets for this raffle.
Our last meeting before the summer break was held on June 14, 2023, and was also the summer BBQ. The event was well attended with over 90 members from both the Fraser Valley and Vancouver councils of the CNPA.
Our "Poet Laureate" Ross Dewar treated us to a few of his poems for lunchtime entertainment and after lunch (chicken and ribs) there were several draws for prizes:
$25.00 Gift card winners were:
Nadia Peresin, Gil McQueen, Cecil Erickson, Jim Lukow, Tony Fritz, Ken Favero, Roger Avoan, Gordy Waters, Debbie Olson and Lorrie Douglas.
The Garden Wheelbarrow, generously donated by Keith Dyrda, was won by
Ross Rees.
We held the draw for the quilt and the lucky winner was Richard McQueen.
There were two 50/50 draws:
The first draw for $200 was won by Wendy Kesselring
The second draw for $100 was won by Robert King.
The balance of the 50/50 draw was donated, along with a generous donation of food, to Church in the Valley and their food bank.
Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to everyone who attended, and participated in this event. We hope you enjoyed the food and company!
